Nursery Groups
Nursery children simply love to get their hands onto the
ceramic surface and start painting. Children are great at
getting stuck in and having a go, but there are always a couple
of shy ones who need a little help.
For nursery children, we encourage them to try a whole range
of techniques to see what suits them. If they aren't ready
for fine brush work, then we'll show them how to use some
stamps, sponges, stencils and finger work too.
Of course, all of our paints are non-toxic.
 Here's
what we did at the Cleddens Learning and Childcare Centre
in Bishopbriggs. We enjoyed storytime with 'The Tiger Who
Came To Tea.' and then painted friendly tiger faces on our
6 inch (15cm) plates. We had lots of fun discussing how we
would use our plates...
'mine's for my pet cat'
'I'm going to give mine to my baby sister'
'I'm going to ask my Dad to put mine on
my bedroom wall'
Read and Paint Sessions
Here we start by reading a story and then the childsren each
create something that links in with the story. It's a simple
idea, but it works really well.
Here are some examples, perhaps some of the stories are old
favourites:
Dinosaur Roar- and the painting focuses on dinosaurs
Jasper's Surprise- Curly Beanstlaks are painted on plates
and tiles
Eat Up Gemma- Lots of fruity colour on plates, just like
in the story
The Tiger Who Came to Tea- Don't hold back on those black
and orange stripes!
Handa's Surprise- We have a range of animals to tie in with
this story, or even cover a plate with tangerines just like
Handa's.
